The Practice of the Presence of God, by Brother Lawrence

Brother Lawrence was a lay monk in 17th century Paris. He was assigned to the monastery kitchen, where, amidst the hectic chores of cooking and cleaning, he honed his intimate walk with God. Eventually he came to see that:

“There is not in the world a kind of life more sweet and delightful than that of a continual conversation with God. Only those can comprehend it who practice and experience it…If, at any time, my thoughts wander from this state from necessity or infirmity, I am presently recalled by inward emotions so charming and delicious that I cannot find words to describe them.”
